Questions and Answers
Q: Why is my feed bricking?
A: Your feed is bricking because the sugars in the molasses you are using are not properly balanced. Northeast Feed will analyze your current molasses, along with your current feed to ensure that you have the proper composition. Having the sugars balanced will also keep your equipment cleaner and make your pumps last longer.
Q: Why does my feed dry out so quickly?
A: Keeping your feed fresh and looking moist is a key marketing concern for the feed industry. Northeast feed will gather samples of your finished feed, feed before molasses is added, and your current molasses. We then utilize these samples for testing and determining an approach to make your feed stay fresh and look moist longer.
Q: Why do I get black spots on my feed?
A: These black spots on your feed could be the result of the molasses have fiber or ash in it. Or it could be the result of sediment from the bottom of your tank. Some molasses blends tend to separate in the tank. Some molasses blend do not have the sugars balanced and end up having molasses sticking to the sides of the tank. This build up can cause lost volume in the tank, and chunks of old molasses appearing in the finished feed. Northeast feed will analyze your operation and current tank(s) to offer recommendations to keep this from happening.
Q: Where does all my molasses go?
A: Using a molasses that is not blended properly or is does not have the proper levels of dry matter could cause your feed to absorb the molasses more quickly. one step that some mills have taken was to just add more molasses to the feed. This causes feed that maybe too wet, have mold issues, and may have palatabilty issues. Using more molasses also causes the user to go through more molasses and spend more money on their molasses.Northeast feed will develop a blend that will stay moist, not get moldy and will keep the palatabilty the same as what you are currently using.
